Would using a USB drive solve this problem.
Likely it wouldn't show up with a USB drive. But it seems to me you shouldn't be seeing this with the My Book Live.
- Are you using My Book user credentials in the ReadyNAS backup job?
- Have you checked the My Book Live file permissions from a Windows PC?

It can easily handle a 4 TB USB drive.
I don't have any experience with this particular USB drive, though it does seem to be intended for use with a Windows PC (it has some preloaded Windows software, and doesn't list linux as a supported operating system). It probably would work fine, but might need to be repartitioned and reformatted.
