The 424 isn't available yet. You can get some idea of CPU performance from here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/10950/netgear-expands-readynas-lineup-with-intel-denverton-atom-platform. The RN314 uses the 2.13 GHz Intel D2700 dual-core Atom and has 2 GB of DDR3 RAM.
What are your expectations on Plex performance?
The RN424 is a good new product. It has a newer generation CPU than what was in the RN314.
If you need to transcode using Plex I'd go for the 500 series.
