Hello mediasurfer,
By default ReadyNAS uses XRAID when you install it. Since you are using a 6-bay NAS, it will automatically use XRAID with RAID 6. This is best option for your 6-bay NAS, in my opinion.
RAID 6 is also known as double-parity RAID, uses two parity stripes on each disk. It allows for two disk failures within the RAID set before any data is lost.
Here are some articles about RAID that you might want to read:
What is X-RAID and how does it work with my ReadyNAS OS 6 storage system?
How do I change to a different RAID level on my ReadyNAS OS 6 storage system?
ReadyNAS leaves all shared folders accessible by any one who is on the same network by default. If you want some shared folders be password protected, you may need to create user accounts for other people. You can use the admin account for your own access. Please click here for steps on how to create user accounts, you may also see this article for steps on how to set permissions on shared folders.

Hi thanks for your reply and the RAIID info.
I have encountered my first problem already:
I visited readycloud created an account and discovered my router. I got all the way through to setting the time zone and pressing OK on my server. The webpage said no response within 3 minutes would you like to try again. I couldn’t get past this, even though the server said thank you when I pressed it, so I reloaded the page and then I was taken to the firmware upgrade. The firmware upgrade completed successfully.
Now when I visit readycloud, my server is discovered, but I get a communication error, check power would you like to try again etc?
I decided to visit the IP address shown on the front of my server, directly and this takes me to the server admin logon. I can enter and setup the server here. When I go to the readycloud page however, my server is shown greyed out, offline, check power, would you like to try again etc. No sever found on the discover tab to setup.
So now I am stumped, any ideas?

Hello mediasurfer,
ReadyCloud service must be not ON yet, please see What is ReadyCLOUD and how do I use it with my ReadyNAS OS 6 storage system? article.
Also, I suggest not updating to 6.4.0 yet.

Thanks that worked for me.
What I can't get my head round is this. I can use my Windows 7 PC to navigate to the folders on my server, (I've now created short cuts to these.) I've added some files in the video folder. These files are visible when I logon using the admin. They also show up on my wi-fi enabled blu-ray player.
However when I logon using readycloud the folders are empty. What am I doing wrong?

Hello mediasurfer,
Do you get the same results in accessing this sme folder when you use ReadyCloud on a web browser?
Also, are you using the main ReadyCloud account when accessing it?
