Upgrade old ReadyNAS

Please could you kindly advise me on the steps needed to upgrade and use an old ReadyNAS Duo [X-RAID] which has hardly been used since it was acquired?

I have RAIDiator 4.1.4 installed. Which way should this be upgraded?

I am also unable to access the machine from the desktop, only via the web interface. Please could you advise on suitable software for both iMac and Windows 10?

Many thanks in anticipation of your help.

Next step - what is the best recommended software interface for this device in order to move files to and fro?

    Windows File Explorer...

Start Menu, type: manage network passwords

Press Enter, add an entry with the IP address of the NAS and the credentials. Open File Explorer, in the address bar, type (replace ipaddress by the actual IP address: \\ipaddress

Or expand the network section to find your NAS.

Or open RAIDar and click Browse.

  • If you want to update the F/W of the NAS, you should use the "Check for update" button under System from the Web UI. It might update by steps instead of going to the latest versions straight away, if necessary. The latest version is 4.1.15.

If you have important data on the NAS it would be advisable to update your regular backup of that data before doing the firmware update.

        Thank you for the replies.

For reasons I don't understand it will neither upgrade the FW through the web management, nor can I upload a FW upgrade manually, it errors out.

Equally, I can't do the backup without getting access to the disk(s), can I?

I have tried to install a download of the management program without success.

I think I read somewhere that FW upgrades have to be done incrementally. Is this the case?

If so, could you please link me to the correct versions.

        Thank you.
