ReadyNAS AV Update Protocol
Recently my university has started requiring us to be on the university VPN to SSH into university resources. Coincidentally, and confusingly, this change has broken AV updates on all the ReadyNAS m...

What is this version 6.10.6 that you speak of, that includes a new version of ClamAV that uses port 445. Do I have to install that to get AV updates, or should 6.10.5 still work? I need to make sure the problem doesn't lie with the NAS devices before I engage with my network guys...
6.10.6 is beta (release candidate 1) and can be found here: https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Beta/ReadyNASOS-6-10-6-Beta/m-p/2151119#M10972
I don't use AV on my own NAS, but others have reported that the version in 6.10.5 no longer works (deprecated by ClamAV).

This leads me to believe that the ReadyNAS isn't using SSH to get the updates in the first place
It doesn't.
I believe 6.10.5 and earlier uses port 80. Someone else here posted that it changed to 443 in 6.10.6 (with the new version of ClamAV), but I didn't confirm that.

It sounds like you think something is blocking port 80, preventing the updates, but I'm confused about the OS version.
All the devices I am dealing with are either RN316 or RN426 boxes. They are telling me that OS 6.10.5 Hotfix 1 is the latest OS, but you are referencing a 6.10.6. I don't see that one available on the download page either. When I go to
https://www.netgear.com/support/product/ReadyNAS_OS_6.aspx#download
I see this:
Firmware and Software Downloads
Current Versions
Software Version 6.10.5 (x86)
Software Version 6.10.5 (arm)
What is this version 6.10.6 that you speak of, that includes a new version of ClamAV that uses port 445. Do I have to install that to get AV updates, or should 6.10.5 still work? I need to make sure the problem doesn't lie with the NAS devices before I engage with my network guys...
Thanks,
Nick

Thanks very much for the info. Sort of lame that they would break the AV software before the new OS is released, but at least I know it's not a network issue now.
Any idea when the 6.10.6 is scheduled for release? I would prefer not to use a beta OS on these machines unless they will be without AV protection for months, not weeks.
