SMB Protocol
Hi
I using a program called GoodSync to sync data from my Windows 10 Pro pc to my ReadyNAS 312 the backup stopped working last week when GoodSync updated their program, GoodSync support say they have a new Windows Share (SMB).
To address this issue I need to make sure [SMB Protocol] is any combination that contains SMB2. The firmware version installed on the NAS is 6.10.5 Hotfix 1, and I’m not sure which version of SMB the NAS is using (see image below) or if there is any way to install SMB2, has anyone had the same problem or can anyone help me solve this issue.
Kind Regards
Peter.

Curious where the idea comes from that you have to play with the (Windows native) SMB client and/or the SMB server (SAMBA here).
When quickly reading over the GoodSync News for Windows, one can find recent update notes like these: SMB client: continue work on our own native SMB client, both for SMB v2/v3 and SMB v1. This does not read like it requires an SMB 2.x server only. Also, SMB FS: Added option to use New Sib-SMB FS or Windows-based SMB FS to Program Options is in the release notes for 11.8.3 here: https://www.goodsync.com/news-windows
So you can apparently use the Windows stack if you use that option.

ReadyNAS OS 6 does support for a longer time SMB protocol 3.1.1, has fall-back options for SMB 3.0, SMB 2.1, SMB 2.0, and still can deal with SMB 1.0 for legacy applications (which includes user-space Apps on mobile devices!)
The Windows SMB client does auto-negotiate the highest available protocol during the connection establishment.
While commonly not (virtually never) required: The highest resp. lowest SMB version can be set using the "SMB Plus" App installable also on your NAS model when I have it right.
While having a shared folder connection to your ReadyNAS, you can check which dialect version your Windows 10 system is using, run the the PowerShell cmdlet
Get-SmbConnection
which will show the SMB connections and the dialect that is being used.

-Kurt
PS. I find a "new" application requiring SMB 2.x in the year 2021 not acceptable.

I just want to add that this means that the NAS supports SMB 2.x connections by default, so you shouldn't need to change that.

As we talk of a Windows 10 Pro system, we can assume it does negotiate to the highest SMB dialect available on both sides - what would translate to establish some SMB 3.1 or SMB 3.1.1 connection.
