ReadyNas duo v1 to Squeezebox Classic without a router?

I used to connect my Squeezebox Classic to my ReadyNas duo V1 via a home wifi network. I am now a user on someone else's wifi, so I'm hoping to connect them via ethernet without a router in between. Is this possible?

I ran a crossover RJ45 between them but so far I can't get them to talk to each other. Slim server is installed on the NAS. I did log the SB onto the wifi here to access Squeeze Network but I don't want to add the NAS to someone else's network.

I know that this is old gear but I have hundreds of CD's on the NAS in FLAC. I can pick up a second hand router if I have to but I'd like to keep it simple if possible. The SB is running the latest firmware but I don't know just yet which version the ReadyNas is running but it worked fine with the SB before.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

ReadyNAS Network Storage: Official NETGEAR Community

You might like to search there for messages related to your problem.

I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

    Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

    Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
