Not sure about the v2 NAS (I never owned one), but other ReadyNAS systems don't have it. But mkdir should work.
It's not that surprising that there are issues with apt, since the version of linux used by the NAS is no longer supported. It shipped with Debian Squeeze - not sure if Netgear migrated it to Wheezy later on or not. Either way, archived years ago, so a lot of new packages won't install.
You could try powering down, removing the disk(s), and doing a fresh install on a spare disk. Then see if you get the same behavior with the spare. Just power down before reinserting the operational disk(s).
- So it would be best to change to wheezy, or squezze, two or one, as best as possible. So what's the best way to change it, or to put it another way, which file to edit or what to type in the terminal. If so, then you can do it, please help me how.
