Is your NAS running 4.1.x firmware or 5.3.x?

Do you know which disk is generating the ATA errors?

The firmware is 5.3.11. I am trying to update it to 5.3.13 however have had issues.

I understand that ATA errors can occur when the NAS has to be powered down forcefully which is what I have had to do when it has become unresponsive.

So maybe the disks are still ok. Anyhow I am not taking the risk, I am currently taking the data off and moving to the cloud and have already ordered some replacement disks and will plan to factory reset the device once the data is off.

One thing that I would like to know is if there is anywhere (I assume using SSH) that I could get useful information to help me understand the root cause of the issue, why does the NAS suddently freeze. I like to know that so I can plan better for the future.

Actually, you can get a lot of information from the logs in the downloaded logs .zip file. To get more information from SSH, the best thing is to have an open SSH session all the time so you can use it when the problem occurs. The execute top and see if something is taking up an inordinate amount of CPU time.

Ok managed to resolve the firmware upgrade issue.
Apparently found out it doesnt like uploading the firmware file using Chrome or Microsoft Edge, using the legacy Internet explorer does work though......
