My question is this when i see the unit in Network and double click it opens a bunch of folders labelled music pictures videos etc etc.
Those are DLNA media classifications - not folders. If you don't use DLNA you should probably just turn it off.

There are other ways. Are you sure you have a Duo v2? The labels are quite confusing.
Check the front panel:
- The original (v1) Duo says "ReadyNAS Duo"
- The Duo v2 says "ReadyNas Duo v2"

Hi again
So i originally installed a 1tb drive and was able to map a drive to it, i then copied a bunch of files to it
BUT then i decided to upgrade to 2 lots of 4tb drive, i set them as Raid auto however i then realised i needed files that were on the 1tb drive, so i thought thats ok ill shut the nas down and just reinsert the 1tb drive on its own
but now although i can see the shared folder in the admin page if i run Raidar and click browse it opens up the shares in windows explorer but i cant access any of the shared folders all i get is windows cant access \\192.168.... etc
I have tried mapping drives using net use command and the same again, is there anyway to get to the music folder on the 1tb drive?

This matters, as the original Duo doesn't support drives bigger than 2 TB. It won't detect the proper size, and you will end up with a much smaller volume.

So you powered down, removed both 4 TB drives.
- Did you power up with both bays empty and then insert the 1 TB drive?
- Or did you insert the 1 TB when the NAS was powered down, and then powered up?

Can you still access the NAS web ui?

I powered down the system removed the 2 lots of 4tb and then installed the 1tb drive then powered on, I assumed that it would just boot back up as it was when i first did it and that the music folder would be accessible

Also i cannot create a new share on the drive, so it seems that the system isnt seeing the drive correctly
