Are you sure the disk is locked, and not simply failed?

The disk passes the disk check test from the NAS... I would expect if there were a problem the NAS would show BAD Disk as I tried a known bad disk that fails in Windows...
Is there a way to check if it has been locked as I can't access it with Windows either..
I know disks can be unlocked according to the fix in the below link, the user mdgm-ntgr resolved the issue.

You of course can try to unlock.
The linux command requires that hdparm be installed.
hdparm --security-unlock NETGEAR /dev/sdX
Substituting the real drive letter for sdX. You need to either be logged in as root, or use sudo in front of the command.

Hi.
I have connected the disk in a USB docking station to a Raspberry Pi 2 and unable to mount the drive.
I used command 'sudo disk -l' and 'lsusb' and the disk does not show as a sdxx device.
It seems the disk is just unreadable in both Windows and Linux.
I'm just going to bin this disk as I don't want to waste your or my time.
Thank you for all your input.

Just as a side note I used SeaTools which shows the disk as security locked!
