Do you have ssh enabled on the NAS?
When you say "latest firmware" - do you mean 4.2.31? Or have you converted this NAS to run OS-6?

Sorry, your correct. This NAS has been converted to 6.x a long time ago.

I suggest going in with ssh, and see if you can navigate into the problem folder.
Maybe also look in the logs for any btrfs or disk errors around the time of the SMB crash.

Thanks, I have been poking around over ssh. I can see these directories and navigate around seemingly without issue.
I made a copy of one of the problem folders and saw some btrfs errors during the copy, though haven't been able to find anything actionable after a quick google.
Bunch of:
BTRFS error (device md127): error inheriting props for ino 379649 (root 4688): -28

Note the BTRFS errors don't seem to be triggered (printed) by the samba crashes. The last ones in dmesg are from 9 this morning when the cp finished. But we've been getting the samba crashes all day.

It seems that the issues aren't limited to just the one directory I found this morning. The samba share is generally unstable.
Example of the error shown in Windows
Example: Earlier I could go to the A-Electrical folder and look at things, now it flashes “This folder is empty”, then it reverts back, and it keeps flashes back and forth between the two.
