Upgraded my ReadyNas to the latest firmware yesterday. The unit hung on first reboot but after waiting an hour, power cycled it and it finished installing the upgrade and booted. All good until thi...

Sorry, your correct. This NAS has been converted to 6.x a long time ago.

I suggest going in with ssh, and see if you can navigate into the problem folder.
Maybe also look in the logs for any btrfs or disk errors around the time of the SMB crash.

Thanks, I have been poking around over ssh. I can see these directories and navigate around seemingly without issue.
I made a copy of one of the problem folders and saw some btrfs errors during the copy, though haven't been able to find anything actionable after a quick google.
Bunch of:
BTRFS error (device md127): error inheriting props for ino 379649 (root 4688): -28

Note the BTRFS errors don't seem to be triggered (printed) by the samba crashes. The last ones in dmesg are from 9 this morning when the cp finished. But we've been getting the samba crashes all day.

FWIW, I'm not seeing this on my own NAS (including a Pro-6 running 6.10.7).

Not sure what is wrong, but it sounds like file system corruption.
If you don't have a current backup, then I'd make one (not using SMB of course). Then maybe try a scrub, and see if that helps. Note there is a btrfs scrub you can run from ssh, that would be faster than using the maintenance wheel function (which also does a RAID scrub).

My Backup NAS is in a crippled state right now due to the TLS debacle. Hope to fix it with the OS reinstall. When it rains, it pours XD
The current backup is only a day or two old, just need to be able to get access to it.
