after taking +/- 5 minutes or more to finally time out when trying to reach/load the page, the error says:
Secure Connection Failed.
the connection to 192.168.1.110 was interrupted while the page was loading.
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

That sounds like a different problem. Are you running any antivirus/firewall software?

What status is RAIDar giving you?

yes. I use Avast free AV on my Windows management laptop; and have the NAS connected to the integrated/embedded switch on my Fortinet firewall.
as far as I remember, no changes to either one since I last connected to the frontview page.
today, as I return to resume access efforts, my Avast AV wanted to update its engine & reboot. so I did. and then, following reboot, when I launched Firefox to reconnect to the ReadyNAS, I get the warning about the cert on the NAS (I'm thinking 'ok... is it going to work this time?') I allow the cert, get the login for the NAS, and then voila! I'm in!
and all I know that I did was update the AV! I made no other changes!
so now that I'm in, how do I update the NAS software to allow more recent versions of TLS & what other updates do you guys suggest? I'll put that out there while I'm digging out my USB drive to run backups on my NAS volumes.
thanks for humoring me & for all your suggestions!

One option is to convert your Pro 6 to run OS-6. That will require a factory reset, so you'd have to restore all the data from backup. Among other things, it would both update TLS and give you support for SMB 3.1. If you want more details on that, just post back and ask.
If you choose to stay with 4.2.31 firmware, you can add TLS 1.2 support by installing this add-on:
You can also make a modification to the NAS so that you can reach the admin web page with unencrypted TLS. The mod is in post 1 of this thread:

Glad to here it. Those AV updates can sneak in. At least it seems Avast recognizes folks may use old devices on their home network and made bypassing it easy. Norton 360 recently added a similar block, and bypassing it was not so simple -- even diagnosing it wasn't straightforward.
