ReadyNAS RN104 fresh setup to replace Seagate NAS
hello, just a fresh user of the ReadyNAS system 🙂 I just acquired (used) a ReadyNAS 104 and stuck in four 4tb WD purple drives I had salvaged and tested good. Its taking days to sync,...

Sorry, I thought I'd posted that.
My RN102 has the same processor, and runs at 50C when idle. So your CPU temp is typical.
The NAS has a back up job capability that can copy directly from the Synology. Protocol include rsync (which is what I use), smb, and NFS.

So my main concerns are the CPU temp and secondary concern is a method to copy my file base over without use of an intermediate computer...
a very distant third is the format time, as I felt it was not really bad..
any input on the two issues?
Thanx

I will explore that backup more fully, it did not appear to do what I was hoping for but I may have missed something.
I have prepped the Vim3 SBC with Ubuntu and have it as a fall back, it will be another 30 ish hours before I can start the copy job anyhow...
I know I can start it now, I just don't like the idea of doing that while the sync/format is going on.
Thanx for the info on temp, makes me more comfortable 🙂

You can set a backup job to copy a folder on the Seagate to a share on the ReadyNAS.
Isn't that what you want?

The backup job system seems to work but when I took a look at the final outcome, for some reason the folder that was copied over had odd permissions applied, I was not able to delete, rename, etc the content on the target via a windows PC
So I don't think this is going to do the job I need. Unless you can see what caused this?
