I keep getting a message on screen saying - ERR used disks check RAIDar
I have Restarted the nas and went into boot menu
Ran OS reinstall but still got Err message
This isn't directly related to the router change - more likely something when wrong when you shut down the NAS.
If you can connect your disks up to a Windows PC (using USB adapter/docks) you could try data recovery software (for instance www.r-studio.com )
Netgear paid support is another option, hopefully JohnCM_S or Marc_V can resolve your support issue. They do offer a data recovery service ( https://kb.netgear.com/69/ReadyNAS-Data-Recovery-Diagnostics-Scope-of-Service )

Should i remove all the drives and put in a dummy drive to do a factory reset?
If i do this will i be able to reinstall my drives later to recover the data
That won't help. The factory reset just installs the operating system onto the drive(s) and creates a fresh data partition. So it won't resolve any issues with your current disks.
