ReadyNAS Slow transfer rates or not???
Hi,
I've just set up my 214 with 2x2TB wd Reds using Xraid on Windows 10.
The NAS is connected by cable to a BT home hub2 router, with no wireless at any point on network.
This is my 1st NAS and i'm using with the Plex app atm, so i've set it up at default settings, not wanting to play around with things that might bite me back ;)
All is working fine regards Plex but (and i may be wrong) i'm finding the transfer rate somewhat slower than i expected between my PC and the NAS..
i am used to SSD's and appreciate that it's gonna be a lot slower but i'm getting transfer rates from my SSD to the NAS of around 10MB/s on average, as shown in the Win10 copy window.
I'm just wondering if this is about what i can expect or can i get things to speed up a bit.
Many thanks

Your router is a very old model and only has 100Mbit ethernet ports so 10MB/s is exactly what's expected with that router. Either get a newer router with gigabit (1000Mbit) ethernet ports or put a gigabit switch between the router and your NAS and PC.

HI,
thanks for the prompt response.
Well, to be honest i was a a bit disappointed that to read that i'd just bought a very old model as new ;)
i''ve re checked the specs on th netgear site for the 214 and it states that it has 2x GbE ports which i understood the mean 1000mb ports
(which i was advised to look for).
I've tried connecting the NAS from my Home hub via the GigE port on the router trough a netgear GS105 unmanaged switch.
I'm getting 2 indcator lights up on the port which i understand means it's 1000mb.
Apologies as i'm new to this but i bought the NAS after reading the specs and assumed when the spec read 2 xGbE ports that they would be 1000mb.
It's no real big issue (if a bit dissapointing) the NAS works really well in all other ways, just transfering stuff from my PC based Plex is taking an age.
Advice on where my thinking has gone wrong would be appreciated, i'll keep the learning ...;)
thanks again

OK..hands up i misread your post ;) <------ idiot!!
Ye the router is quite old but i'm using one port labeled GigE to a switch which then from switch to PC and NAS.
maybe time to invest in new router.
thanks again and apologies for previous post....i'll learn to read soon
Many thanks
