Once the volume is dead, it is too late to replace a drive. Still, sometimes data can be recovered (depending on exactly what happened).

Then you have lost your data. A data recovery service might be able to get it back.
FWIW, that message is confusing - it is only appropriate if you are wanting to create a new volume.

When StephenB says "don't do that", he means don't delete the volume via the UI, not don't physically remove them. Which are you saying you did? If all you did is remove the wrong drive, then your volume may be recoverable, especially if the NAS didn't even start to sync the new drive. You can get more info from the log .zip file. StephenB is good at helping you decipher the logs.
