Are you saying that
- you are directly playing the files on the NAS with VLC?
- Or are you going to view->playlist->local network->universal plug'n'play?
If that latter, then you are using the ReadyNAS DLNA service to do the streaming. Unfortunately DLNA has no access/parental controls.
One option is to create a separate share for the adult content, and simply turn off the DLNA server for that share. You can hide that share - although you can still browse it with file explorer it if you know the sharename, and play the content by clicking on the file. Alternatively use plex to stream the media - keeping the DLNA server option in plex off. Then the plex account password would provide the access controls you are looking for.

Our problem is I need to get rid of the recently added option because all the stuff we want to keep hidden shows up there. Hoping someone can help with this thank you.
If you simply hid a subfolder, then you can
- adjust file explorer settings to show hidden files and folders
- right-click on the folder name in explorer, select properties, and un-hide it.

You can hide a folder from DLNA by starting it with a dot (.). But that doesn't necessarily solve your problem. VLC on a PC or standard Android will see the folder when you browse, but Android TV does not. You can manually add it as a favorite on Android TV, but that kinda defeats the purpose unless you have a device to access them that's not available to the kids.
Putting them in a separate share with different access is what I do -- the ones my granddaughter can access are in a share that doesn't require a login where any she's not (and she's 5, so it's not just "adult" content) are in a share that requires a login and I do not save the credentials to VLC on the TV.
You didn't ask, but if you are having trouble logging in with VLC for Android, cancel the first dialog (which tries only SMB1) and then enter the credentials in the second, unless you are using a NAS that has SMB1 enabled (or exclusively).
