thanks for the reply.
I will try a non USB3, somewhere I do have an ancient USB1 drive.
RAIDar didn't find the NAS, neither did a regular networscan.

That does point to a Flash/UBOOT issue. Definately try the USB recovery again with a non USB3 device. If it has an access LED, all the better. The LED should do more than a quick flash.

I tried different USB sticks.
With the USB1.0 I did see interaction, and it powered down when finished.
Although it didn't fix the problem. When powered on, it goes back to the problem.
All the leds are on, even when there are no disks inside. When I press the backup button, all led goes out except the power button.
I tried an USB2.0 stick, there was some interaction.
But the power and backup leds were constanly blinking, including the led on the USB.
I guess it couldn't read the stick and got stuck on it.
