RN10222D Vertical Expansion - First Time
I'm expanding from 2TB to 4TB on my RN102. I purchased compatible drives (Hitachi Deskstar NAS HDN724040ALE640). The system is running X-Raid Raid 1. I am not clear on how to know if the system is...

Thank you all for your responses. If the drives were indeed compatible, then there may have been another problem. Both of the drives I tested were not recognized by the BIOS (discovered through the .log files). I did receive notification of an update to the firmware today (2016/06/24) and that update may or may not contain a fix to the problem I was having.
I returned the two drives and purchased two WD RED WD40EFRX (Western Digital 4TB MFR # WDBMMA0040HNC-NRSN). These two drives behaved as expected and my vertical expansion was a success.
On a final note I do want to say I am completely pleased with the ReadyNas 102. The system is very easy to use and the expansion, when using proper disks, is easy as pie...
Thank you all.

After checking the log files we (a friend and I) determined the Hitachi Deskstar NAS HDN724040ALE640 was not recognized by the ReadyNas102 and not compatible. I would love for Netgear to confirm this and remove it from the list or update the firmware as necessary.
For now, I'm returning my drives and purchasing another drive listed in the compatibility list - we'll see, I guess.

Hi GregoryTapler,
Welcome the community!
The drive is indeed compatible with your RN102 and it's also listed in our ReadyNAS HCL (click here). It is probable that the said drive is defective because of the buzzing sound that you hear from it. One way to check it though is to connect it to a PC via SATA cable for test purposes. Since you already return them, we'll just wait until you receive the replacement and post back the result afterwards.
Kind regards,
BrianL
