RN314 - HDD failure question

You don't need to strictly stay on the HCL. NAS-Purposed drives (WDC Red, Seagate Ironwolf) are goot options, as are enterprise class.
I don't recommend desktop-class drives anymore (particularly 3 TB Barracudas, which have a rather poor reliability record in RAID arrays).
