Setting up my NAS for cloud access

I bought my NAS a while ago but did not populate it with disks or start to use it until recently (hence out of Netgear support). It is connected to my router and hence my PC and I have transferred files successfully. Now I want to be able to access it remotely, e.g. from my laptop. I have tried to set up ReadyCLOUD and have run RAIDar but it says that the NAS is offline yet it is connected to my router and I can see files from my PC.

How can I get the NAS to be in a state where I can access remotely via the internet? Are there any settings that I need to make? If I can't do something simple like this then it is rather a wste of money!

Help please.

  • What firmware are you running?  It needs to be 6.5.1 to use ReadyCloud

Do you have a static IP address or are you using dhcp?

Raidar states I am using 6.5.0. I would have thought that I should have been told that I had to upgrade. If I upgrade, how is it done and will it affect my stored data?

As for your other question, I would not know. I have the device plugged in to my router and both the device and router are on 24/7.

  • Once you log-in to your admin page you need to click on the 'Cloud' tab. When you are there, you should see the ReadyCloud option with an on-off switch. You can flip it on and set it up from there.
