So little add-ons for ARM!!! This sucks.
Hey guys,
Been a loyal ReadyNAS user since 2008. My first was ReadyNAS Duo and now I'm on Duo v2.
My complaint is that there so few add-on (Netgear official & community) for the ARM platform.
From the Readynas.com add-ons page I found the following for ARM platform:
Non-community (I guess official ReadyNAS add-ons) for ARM:
Enable Root SSH Access
&
... THAT'S IT!!! (maybe the site needs updating because I know ReadyNAS Photos II is available in ARM)
Community based for ARM:
PHPMyAdmin
Sabnzbd
Transmission (which now you have to pay for)
This is seriously disappointing.
I do love the performance of the v2 and the build quality is top notch. I do miss the ability to upgrade the RAM from 256 MB to higher... (RAM was upgradable on the Duo v1 and I upped it to 1 GB RAM).
Have you guys been reading the reviews for ReadyNAS Duo v2? I agree with most of the reviews, which state that performance on the Duo v2 is quiet amazing from price point, but add-ons are pretty shitty. :x
Here's what Maximum PC says:
"ReadyNAS devices usually have access to a wide range of add-ons from Netgear or third parties via the community at ReadyNAS.com, but the vast majority aren’t compatible with the ARM-based ReadyNAS Duo v2 and ReadyNAS NV+ v2."
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/%5Bpri ... _v2_review
PCMag.com:
"Management software issues. Poor documentation. Lack of software add-ons to extend feature set."

I bought the ReadyNAS Duo v2 from Newegg.com back in late 2011. It's been almost one year, but not much to show for in terms of add-ons. Did you guys see the reviews on Newegg.com? 3 Eggs and a lot of complaints. What's going on???
/end rant.

- I'm so close to pulling the trigger on the DS413. lol
- PapaBear1ApprenticeDS413 or DS413j? Neither one has the front panel to tell you whats going on which means you must decode light flashes. The better looking DS413 has a weak processor (1.067 GHz) although it is dual core and does have 1GB of memory. The DS413j has a 1.6GHz processor but since it does not say dual core, one must assume a single core. The design leaves me unimpressed (looks like a 1980's diskette storage box) and it only has 512GB of memory.
If you are in that price range you need to seriously consider the Ultra 4 or even the Ultra 4 Plus. (Better hardware and extensive add-ons). - hey PapaBear,
I seriously considered grabbing the ultra 4/+, but they both don't have usb 3.0. i seriously need that as my run and go to backup my essential files...
tonight i got my wd red drives... did a factory reset after back up all my data and letting it sync. re-downloaded ssh add-on for ARM from readynas website... installed and constantly got failed ssh install error 13... about 10 times.
i'm moving to a different NAS unfortunately. screw ARM...
the SSH install fail was the final straw on the camel's back. - devilsrearAspirant

I've been trying for the last hour to get GENIE store to work. It keeps saying I already made an account, but I never did. Tried doing password reset, but it never sends me an e-mail to reset the password. This is really broken. Terrible terrible. I'm REALLY considering buying Synology after using ReadyNAS for 4+ years.
So sad. I loved my Duo...
Same here - cannot login to the Genie appstore :( - Just wanted to update...
Just bought a ReadyNAS Pro 2. Much better add-ons...
But, I miss the nice interface of RAIDiator 5... - OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertThe Sparc and x86 units have been around and have more addons due to their age. The x86 are able to get a little more fancy addons with the extra processing power.
The Arm units and Genie app are still young, so there are more app/addons to come. Based on the pick up in may take a few months to show more apps/addons. - stroemAspirantI sell a lot of ReadyNAS (pros and duos) ... pros are very good .. with the duos v2 there are a lot of initial problems ... not resolvable by a normal user ... I am disappointed too about not upgradable ram ... i ask myselv why netgear produces a small nas when they castrate it ... and they let the users test the software ... is netgear really complete desinterested in the lots of complaints about readynas duo v2 in this forum? ...
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThere are more apps appearing over time in the Genie Marketplace.
Whilst the RAM not being replaceable is disappointing, NetGear doesn't support 3rd party memory upgrades anyway for the models that do have replaceable RAM. See http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20685
Edit: I should also add from reading some posts here it does appear that NetGear is working on a 5.3.7 update. This update should address some of the issues that have been faced. - chirpaLuminary5.3.7 is released, though they don't list this bug in the Bug Fixes section, they consider it an Enhancement??
- JPT1AspirantThe Duo V2 hardware is great. The software, well... it's not that great. What can you do?
Just install a plain debian: http://natisbad.org/NAS
And you open the door to any linux software out there!
