ST1000NM0033 in ReadyNAS Pro 6

I have an older ReadyNAS Pro 6 with 3 Seagate ST1000NM0011 1TB drives in it and 3 Seagate 500MB drives (ST3500320NS and ST500NM0011 mix). Single-Redundancy configuration.

I want to replace the 3 500MB drives with 1TB drives. The ST1000NM0011 is no longer made. It looks like the replacement that is closest is the ST1000NM0033, but that drive is not on the Hardware Compatibility list for the Ready NAS Pro 6. Can anyone tell me if that drive will work ok in the Pro 6? Or do I really have to try and find one of the old drives on the list?

Also, somewhat related (but I know it is the wrong forum), I'm assuming I can just pull each 500MB drive one by one (letting the array rebuild fully each time I replace a drive) and once all the drive are replaced I should end up with a bit more capacity as well, correct?

Thanks.

Matt

My guess is that any enterprise drive will work, including the ST1000NM0033. But I don't know for sure. The ST2000vn000 would also work, and give you more capacity for the same price. Netgear could deny support if you go off the HCL, though since they haven't updated that list in a long time they aren't giving you much choice.

Once all the 500 GB drives are replaced, your capacity will increased to 5 TB (4.5 TiB). It should be 3.5 TB (3.18 TiB) now.

Your procedure is correct (hot swapping each one, waiting for resync to complete). It is important to have a backup, since the array is not protected during the process.
