The host name contains illegal characters
I am getting thie message in the logs: "The host name contains illegal characters This may cause undefined behavior when using some network services. Please change the host name using only valid ...

Many devices are ok with _, but it is illegal per RFC 1123.

It is safe to change it. Some devices might have the old name in their cache - rebooting them will of course fix that.
