Hi,
Setting up a new NAS to backup the old one is a great solution. Also it is important what type of RAID you are running now. If volumes are protected is fine and you don't need to worry for your data.Just check logs for disk ATA errors and reallocated sectors. If you running RAID 0 you definitely need to think about a backup solution. Either second NAS or USB drive.
