Upgrade storage RN10200
Hi, I am running out of space and want to upgrade one of the bays to a 10 tb drive. I’m not sure where I should be looking in the documentation and have questions. Do I need to upgrade both to kee...

Assuming you have a RAID1 configuration (the default unless you turned XRAID off), you can increase your available space by replacing one drive with a larger one, allowing that to sync, and then replacing the other. After an initial sync of the second drive, the NAS will expand the volume to use the added space and sync that. But remember it's RAID1 redundancy, so that the new size will still be only as large as one of the new drives.
If you have any other configuration, expansion is not possible.
Frankly, you may want to consider finding a used 4-bay (or larger) NAS into which to move your volume and then have open bays for additional drives. Here's why: If you replace both current 10TB drives with 18TB (which isn't cheap), your 10TB volume grows to 18TB. And to expand yet again. you'd need two even larger drives. But if you had two more bays, you could simply add one more 10TB and have a 20TB volume and expansion capability for yet another 10TB for a 30TB total.
As a bonus, unless you get a 104 (which I don't recommend you do), you'll get a speed increase as well. Based on my tests, even a legacy Ultra4 (the slowest OS4 NAS that can be converted to OS6), is faster than a 102/104 (though not by a lot in some tests). If you do look at legacy NAS to convert, be aware of a couple things: Their caddies aren't compatible with yours, so don't buy one without all caddies thinking you can re-use yours. Those caddies also don't have provisions for 2.5" drives (though you clearly aren't using any). None of the 4 or 6 bay legacy legacy ReadyNAS have USB3, so any backups to USB will be slower.

Great, thanks for the explanation and advice.
It should still be the default setup - I’ve had it for a while and don’t remember, but I can’t think of why I would have change it.
