Well I was kind of thinking the same. But I can plug in Bare drives onto my PC Desktop case directly. It's a custom PC I built. Using Windows software Backup over the Network onto the bare drives that way. I can trust that software much better right now. The only thing is with 12 Gig's a Data or so, that would take a long time over a gigabit Network instead of directly plugged into the NAS which I can do either by USB or ESATA. I would think those speeds would be a whole lot faster.
Crashplan looks interesting, $10 a month Unlimited. The only problem is it would take me over a year to backup my NAS and Max out my 1TB data limit from Comcast. Then if I had to ever restore, that would be yet another issue. That is clearly not pratical. I've been using Carbonite for many years to backup anything Important on my PC computer. Pictures, text files, etc. It's been used a few times to Recover with and that's worked out well.
A Linux Boot disc is a idea. Or boot USB, or a duel boot PC. I may try that. I'd like to get a little better using LINUX then screwing around with it on the NAS. I deal with it a little at work as it is. I need to figure out what software to use to backup my NAS on my PC. See how long it takes. I don't think it'll be very good and slow my Network down for everyone while it's doing it. 1 Gigbit isn't exacly FAST. Kind of wish I had a 10Gigabit Network. Ummm, if only I could figure out a way to get 10Gigabit from my NAS. I've heard of a few trying it. Not sure if I'm ready to go that route. A 626x is just way to much money right now.

It took me about 3 weeks to get my NAS backed up to the crashplan servers- i don't recall how much data I had at the time (maybe 4 years ago). How fast is your uplink?

I do have a 526x with a 10GBASE-T switch, and it is faster than using NIC bonding even with gigabit clients. Getting 10GBASE-T PC NIC cards is pricey though (and of course can't be done on laptops, etc).
