Re: Xfinity Says CM1200 Not Compatible

Comcast tech support rejected my Netgear CM1200 cable modem.  They said to me this modem upload speed is too slow.

I do not understand that this is brand new Cable modem. They told me to look for another model in their website.

I get very frustrated and angry,  They force me to use their own xfi gateway  that is very bad.

I will look for other one to replace it. They said that they upgraded to new network in Lathrop CA  and it screw up their customers.

I want to hear any one from Netgear can provide me comment and feedback on this.

  • My issued turned out to be Xfinity "upgraded" me to 2GB service, and charged me double, of course.  I took it back to 1GB service and all has been fine.  Their take was since I had the fastest service when I went to 1GB, they automatically upgraded it to the fastest service when they got one, without notifying me.

I am not from Netgear.  I am a volunteer that helps respond to questions on this forum.

Attached the the most recent Xfinity list of customer owned and maintained (COAM) modems for use on the Xfinity network.  In the middle of page three, your CM1200 is listed as recommended for their regular network.  I have highlighted the line in yellow.  Make sure you understand the difference between the Xfinity regular network and their new Next Gen network.  Connection to the Next Gen network is required in order to have 100/200 Mbps upload throughput.

Xfinity tech support presses hard to force customers to use hardware that is compatible with the top tier and most expensive internet plans.

I do not know what internet plan you purchase from Xfinity.  Your new CM1200 modem will easily handle download throughput up to 1 Gbps and upload throughput up to 35 Mbps.

Additional information is available here:  https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/wiki/knowledgebase/next-generation-internet/.

Note, Xfinity has renamed their new Next Generation network as the Enhanced Speed network.
