I opened the device a couple of months and didnt notice the DOM... I did solder a RAM slot on the motherboard but it was worthless, it wont work. Must be tied to BIOS ROM.
About the DOM... I am pretty sure that TSOP48 chip can be replaced with another high capacity one from a USB with its own controller, or at least using one with a Physon controller. Should try that.

Yes, but AFAIK, that's only a USB2 device and connector. You'd be better off booting from a hard drive or USB3 device.
As for the memory, it's likely also missing one or more buffers and/or pull up/down resistor packs.
