which UPS to buy?

If you have not already done the trial, StephenB came up with a good test. Shut down the NAS normally and plug it directly into the mains and then restart. With the UPS cable connected to the NAS is should detect the UPS. Pull the plug on the UPS and when it gets low, it should shut down the NAS normally. If it does not, there is no sudden shut down of the NAS since it is on a separate power source.
If it works, you can then plug the NAS back into the UPS and plug the UPS back into the mains. After the UPS has built up a bit, you then then restart the NAS.
