My bad, I thought OS5.x was lenny (Debian 5), but I guess it's squeeze (debian 6). Try adding these:
deb http://archive.debian.org/debian/ squeeze contrib main non-free deb-src http://archive.debian.org/debian/ squeeze contrib main non-free

I added the two lines and things have now improved but I still get error messages and W failed to fetch, when i do the Update and Install. The improvement is that if I now do an install again it reports -
'libio-socket-ssl-perl is already the newest version' which sounds good but it does not seem to working.with my application. What checks can I do to verify it is now installed correctly? Attached is a pdf log file of the update/install shiowing the errors etc.

Obviously there are some repositories that can be deleted to clean things up, but they should be ignored, anyway. But something must still be missing (needs to be re-directed to archives) See if /var/log/apt/history.log or /var/log/apt/term.log give any more information.
