well, replicate is not really all that well suited to backing up live-running VM's or iscsi lun's, you may want to research other solutions for those situations.
to put it in perspective, a replicate backup of live VM's or iscsi lun's is a point in time snapshot of the running image. To try to use that backup image would be as if it went from a power on state to losing the power, then trying to turn the power back on and resume as if nothing happened, which does not work like it in reality. (Because not your not suspend/resuming from the backup image, your turning off the power while running, then trying to reboot it.)
