DynDNS allowed some people to be grandfathered in if they stayed active. So if you still have DynDNS account, don't let it expire, if it expires, no more free account.
Here's the settings I used with ddclient to enable no-ip, after signing up through their website first:
I don't remember quite exactly how I found that. It seems like initially I also found the document you are talking about that does not list no-ip as a supported service, but then later on I did find an example config file that had a dozen or two services, including no-ip. I can't remember now. Anyway it works.
