Help! Stream from NAS to iPad with AirVideo App?

I stream to my NookColor, PC and Windows Phone and I don't use anything other than the web server on my ReadyNAS Duo. I enabled WebDAV on the NAS. First I convert the video to a format compatible with the device. This is mp4 basic. I use DVD Catalyst. It works great, automatically adjusts the volume for mobile devices and is cheap. Next the mp4 file needs to be in FastStart format. This means the header information needs to be at the beginning of the file. It seems this is the default now for DVD Catalyst. If you have existing mp4s there is a free app that will do this (google faststart and mp4). I convert my videos at 800Kbs and my internet provider does not provide enough upload bandwidth to be able to stream to the internet. If you reduce the size and video rate you may be able to do it.

To test this out go to archive.org and select a Moving Image. Most videos have a 512Kbs MPEG4 format. If it plays on the iPad this should work.

To view it on the PC I use VLC. I go to the NAS website location and get a file list of movies. Right click on the movie and copy the link location. Paste the link in VLC under Open Network Location.
