How to configure rtorrent in rutorrent by WhoCares

Hi,

Thought I'd post this for anyone out there like me who bought the rutorrent package by WhoCares (http://readynasxtras.com/readynas-sparc-add-ons/rutorrent-rtorrent-sparc) and wanted to configure it.

Settings not Saving
With the rutorrent plugin, some settings are rutorrent specific (e.g. RSS downloader, Autotools) and some are rtorrent specific (port number, upload/download limit, etc). Adjusting the rtorrent settings via the rutorrent interface does not work and has to be done via .rtorrent.rc.

Permissions
When I first installed rutorrent it had no access to my media share so torrents wouldn't download. To fix this:

  • SSH into the ReadyNas

  • cd /c

  • chgrp admin <your-media-directory> -R

  • chmod g+wr <your-media-directory> -R

Also it wouldn't save any rutorrent settings such as my RSS settings, to fix this I did:

  • SSH into the ReadyNas

  • cd /c

  • chown admin:admin .rutorrent -R

  • chmod ug+wr .rutorrent -R

Configuring rTorrent
By default, rtorrent is installed in such a way that you can't configure it using an rtorrent.rc file (as mentioned above, this is necessary to configure rtorrent options - rutorrent doesn't allow it)
To make it use an rtorrent.rc file:

  • SSH into the ReadyNas

  • cp /usr/share/doc/rtorrent/examples/rtorrent.rc /c/home/admin/.rtorrent.rc

  • Edit /etc/frontview/addons/bin/RUTORRENT/RUTORRENT_service

  • Change the last line to '/usr/bin/rtorrent -o scgi_local=/tmp/rutorrent.sock -o port_range=${PORTRANGE}' (You are removing the -d and -n options)

  • Restart ReadyNas

rTorrent will now use the rtorrent.rc in /c/home/admin. Configure this as you see fit.

Hope this helps someone out!

  • Thankyou for your guide - it was very helpful to me. Maybe for the noobs out there like me, with your mention the editing of the RUTORRENT_service file, it would be easiest to copy it to /home/admin/ for editing, then copying back:
    * cp /etc/frontview/addons/bin/RUTORRENT/RUTORRENT_service /c/home/admin/RUTORRENT_service (edit file from within this directory using an appropriate editor)
    * cp /c/home/admin/RUTORRENT_service /etc/frontview/addons/bin/RUTORRENT/RUTORRENT_service (copying the file back)

Some useful settings re how to configure the rtorrent.rc file can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=62018#p359262

I just have to work out (meaning get assistance) to get the rutorrent service to auto start when the NVX powers on....
