How to Intall Java 6 Runtime Environment on Pro (x86) ?

Hi,
Java Runtime Environment 6 (JRE6) is required to run the new SqueezeBox Server Social Music Discovery plugin.
I've tried to install JRE 6 via apt-get according to http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=55136 but i met several
unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Any add-on avalaible for Java 6 ? Anybody succeed with the "manual" install and how ?

Regards
Volpone

  • I didn't succeeded installing Java 6 (JRE) because of unmet dependencies.
I'm not very comfortable evaluating if any risks for my current configuration using "apt-get -f install" to fix depencies installation. Any advice ?

Anybody succeed to install JRE 6 on a x86 Readynas ?

    ReadyNas:~# apt-get install sun-java6-jre

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
    libapache-mod-php5: Depends: php5-common (= 5.2.0-8+etch13) but 5.2.0+dfsg-8+e
    tch16 is to be installed
    php5-mcrypt: Depends: php5-common (= 5.2.0-8+etch13) but 5.2.0+dfsg-8+etch16 i
    s to be installed
squeezeboxserver: Depends: sox but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libvorbisenc2 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libvorbisfile3 but it is not going to be installed
sun-java6-jre: Depends: java-common (>= 0.24) but it is not going to be instal
    led
Depends: sun-java6-bin (= 6-07-3~bpo40+1) but it is not going t
    o be installed or
ia32-sun-java6-bin (= 6-07-3~bpo40+1) but it is not in

    Yep,

    This worked for me today.

There is one typo in those instructions though. Instead of

    dpkg-reconfigure debconfig

    it should be

    dpkg-reconfigure debconf

Everything else went perfectly with that small change
