SANE and HP Photosmart
All, Anybody succeeded in getting the scanning functionality of a HP Photosmart multi-function printer/scanner attached to a ReadyNAS Duo working over the network using SANE (or any other solution)...
I installed the dependencies and it did not actually break the system. As far as I can see the system worked fine with the only exception that the printer was no longer recognized by the ReadyNAS. So all in all it was a setback compared to what I tried to do, but again I guess it was more due to my lack in abilities.
