Request for Resara Samba4 AD/DC alternative add-on
I run this as a VM but wonder if it could be turned into an add-on? Resara http://www.resara.org/is a free AD alternative that actually works and is relatively easy to set up. If you own more than one PC you probably know what a pain it is to maintain user lists on each PC and keep them in sync. Running an Active Directory server from Microsoft is in many cases overkill and expensive. Resara is free and runs under Linux. Can it be done or do I need to run Virtualbox for this?

- ahpsi1TutorWhile I'm loathe to press the issue if nobody is interested I would like to point out the source is here -> https://bitbucket.org/resara/resara-server/overview and the Wiki makes me think it's Debian friendly -> http://www.resara.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ. This really rounds out the feature set of the x86 ReadyNAS - being able to use it as a domain controller and centrally manage your users and their permissions on a box you are going to be running most of the time already! Add a mail server (actually in the works for resara) and de-duplication (another one not many were interested in  ) and you have a full featured office back end!
Enough soap boxing. Anyone think this is worth pursuing (aside from me)? - ahpsi1TutorJust an FYI - Resara went belly-up July of 2012. Unfortunate for those of us that had already implemented a production box and sad that available alternatives for a full-blown MS AD server diminish. Zentyl still exists and works and with Windows 8 you can now just log in with your 'Live' Id so maybe it's less important than it was. I was just looking for something like the Directory Server package found here -> http://www.synology.com/dsm/dsm_app.php?lang=us.
