Request for SOCKS5 support on any P2P torrent client

Hi,

I'd like to request a new torrent client with SOCKS5 support, or alternatively an update to any existing torrent client which will make it support SOCKS5.

SOCKS5 is something many popular PC-clients supports, such as uTorrent. It allows you to make the torrent client download through a proxy.

There isn't any way to route the NAS server through a VPN as i have seen or come across, so i think this would be extremely useful, as i don't want to replace my NAS server.

Currently i am using Transmission, though if any of the current torrent clients that my NAS supports (ReadyNAS Ultra 2) updates to support SOCKS5, i would definitely purchase it.

A proxy which you can subscribe to to use in a torrent client, can for instance be BTguard. If there is any developer here interested in fullfilling this request, you can use that website as some sorts of source of information:
"You can use BTGuard on any BitTorrent client that supports a socks 5 proxy with authentication. Please use the following configuration:

Proxy: Socks V5
Server: proxy.btguard.com
Port: 1025
Ensure you enter your username & password that you registered on BTGuard and subscribed with"

Best Regards, KgOlve

  • You can also make your own Socks 5 Proxy SERVER with the NAS since its a Linux box. You need to do it with the RootSSH addon and research how to do that. But its possible - you wouldnt need to forward a port to the NAS.

However as for the NAS being a SOCK5 client, not going to happen most likely, ITS THE SOFTWARE that you need to have it happen with inside. We have no control of the software - the 3rd party addons that are made - that need that feature.

For example, you need to send a feature request to Transmittion to include SOCKS5 support on their READYNAS ADDON. Also another powerful torrent tool, possible to install on nas is Rtorrent with Rutorrent GUI BUT it doesnt support Socks5
  • Hello, and thank you for your reply, kossboss.

I was trying to post here, since the add-ons page says authors of those Add-ons are super-pousin and WhoCares, and i think they're both registered here?

If you think sending Transmission an email asking them to add that into their Transmission readynas add-on is a better idea, then i will try that too.

SSHing into the NAS i've read is quite risky, especially since i don't know what i am doing in the SSH, so i wouldn't try this first atleast.

    Regards, KgOlve.
