RNWebGuard (Dansguardian) doesnt work

Hi Guys,

So I’ve been looking a for a proxy/filter add-on for the web and I found RNWebGuard (Dansguardian) on the community add-on site. So purchased the add-on only to find it had a dependency (hacked-off  having not realised I would have to purchase that as well!).

So I figured I’m in already in so I decided to purchase the add-on for the add-on (if you know what I mean) and then find out it doesn’t work. The guide reads as follows, “After installation RNWebGuardConfig can be accessed by pointing your browser to http://ip.of.your.nas/dg-config/login.py or by clicking on the link provided in the add-on's section within the list of installed add-ons." This link provided in the add-on section doesn’t exist so I used the link, "http://ip.of.your.nas/dg-config/login.py" (I did change the part to my ip saying "ip.of.your.nas" to my ip just to get, "Not Found. The requested URL /dg-config/login.py was not found on this server."
The article also says make sure that Python 2.6 is installed first which I didn’t do, but I uninstalled RNWebGuard and then installed Python 2.6 and then installed RNWebGuard, with no joy.

Have I blow it by doing the install in the incorrect sequence? Have I missed something? I’m not to sure where to go from here, can anyone help please?
Thanks

  • Possibly something went wrong on the install of one of the add-ons. This normally should not break anything except for the add-ons in question. The first thing to try would be to re-install Python and the WebGuard config add-on without uninstalling the versions you already have installed.

  • Hi Stefan,

No love, I have the following add-ons installed to: Nas Mon, PHP5, Python2.6, ReadyNAS Photos II, RNWebGuard and Transmission.

I'm expecting to see a launch button for the site link of sorts like with NasMon or Transmission, I don't even know what the port number the product uses. Squid gave you this info on the add-on itself (had squid installed up till day before I installed this).

Ive drawn a circle where I'm expecting to see a button of sorts.

    Transmission button like this.

    Thanks for the help.
  • Wel, I could have a look using TeamViewer or you first try the other add-on I just posted on Twitter ;) Choice is yours.

  • Works perfectly!

The only thing is i cant customize it with the p.p as it doesn't load, not sure I may have been to hasty or if it need to build.
Having said that its just started working after I enabled the proxy on my browser. I did a quick Google and found the default port 8118.

The link which references the "More..." ReadynasExtras doesn't resolve anything, I'm assume that's a holding page.

Thanks for the help, would should I do about RNWebGuard that I purchased?

    Thanks again
