Samba 4.1.17 for ReadyNAS Duo v1 (sparc) [Redux]
A while back another user here posted some very good instructions on how to enable SMB3 on the original Sparc-based ReadyNAS Duo units (mine is an RND2000). However, these have since stopped working ...

A few corrections because it won't let me edit the original post:
- Note that RAIDar 6 has a bug that makes it ignore the RAID version you select during initial setup and initialise with RAID1 anyway. Use RAIDar 4 instead. Once initialised after the factory reset double check in FrontView that it has actually chosen the RAID version you selected
- Before executing step 7 you have to create the directory /etc/appt/ using
mkdir /etc/appt
- In step 19 [YOURSERVER] should be the hostname, not the IP address. The value of 'Dialect' in the output should be 3.0.

So this can only be done with a freshly factory defaulted NAS? That's a shame if true, as that'll likely cause some to forgo it.
Since you had to create a user, what happens with the default admin user?
Obviously, this should work on a NV+ V1 as well.
It is far better to use a tool such as Notepad++ than standard Windows Notepad when creating files for a Linux system, as it can be set to save files with the proper Linux EOL (LF only) where standard Notepad always uses a CRLF.

It's possible it might be fine without resetting to defaults, I had just assumed that that step was in for a good reason in the original guide.
Default admin user is still there, but it creates a new user that shows in the FrontView under Security > User & Group Accounts.
It seems like there might be a performance hit, when copying large files I max at 50MB/s reading from NAS and 13MB/s writing to NAS. Memory and CPU usage are all near 100%. I'm not sure how this compares to its usual operation though as I only received this NAS and added disks this morning (WD Red Plus 2TB x 2 in RAID0 so definitely not a bottleneck). I'm going to try and upgrade the RAM to see if that improves things but it's possible this is just the limit of the old hardware.
Also to add, don't forget to enable http/s on your share under Shares > Share Listing or it won't appear in Explorer or hostname/shares!

Odd, I replied earlier today but my post is not showing up. I did receive a notification that someone replied (apparently you and Sandshark) but no sign of my reply. Let's see if this one sticks. Funny, my Kudo to you still shows.
I noted in the original post about the "Factory Reset" as the first step. Since mine is working OK as a backup to my primary NAS, I've decided to leave it alone for now.
Thanks for the updated procedure. I've bookmarked it for future reference.

Oddly, I replied twice to this earlier today but don't see my post. My Kudo still shows. I'll try again.
I saw the "Factory Reset" listed in the earlier post. Since my Duo V1 is working OK with the other TLS and SSL "fixes", I've left it alone for now.
I've bookmark this and the other post for future reference.
Thanks again.

FWIW: My Duo V1 has 1g ram and a pair of old Seagate Barracuda Green drives (2tb each). I found an old laptop stick that happened to fit. Downloads over a 1gb connection using Cat 6 cables through a unmanaged switch to my old Lenovo desktop (I7, 16gb DDR3 ram, 1TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD), results in about 33-35MB/s download and about 20ishMB/s Upload of large video files.
Not sure how that would translate to your system but you have another set of data points.
My Duo is just a backup for my primary NAS so the SSL mismatch and TLS 1.0 "workarounds" are all I've done. Since it's all working well enough I'm going to leave it alone for now.
I have bookmarked your thread here and the other one for future reference in case I decide to go for it.
So Off-topic: I tried to reply under my old user account but my posts were not showing up. Press post and they appear in the thread, but if I click out and come back, or even just refresh the page they are gone. Don't know if you received a notification of my other reply (Saudade). I created a new account using another email address which does seem to work.
Perhaps Sandshark can direct me to someone that can look into this.
Anyway, thanks for the updates!!

This happens when your posts are caught by the automated spam filter. If you PM me, I can release them for you (fwiw, Sandshark cannot).
I'll leave them in quarantine, though the mods will likely release them when they get to it. (They are supposed to check it regularly, but coverage on weekends is lighter than during the week).
