SANE and HP Photosmart

All,

Anybody succeeded in getting the scanning functionality of a HP Photosmart multi-function printer/scanner attached to a ReadyNAS Duo working over the network using SANE (or any other solution)? Been looking for solutions for some time, and it seems that some have succeeded using various Linux distros, but for the ReadyNAS I have only found scattered remarks but no working solutions.

I have tried installing the SANE add-on and tried to install HP-tools, but with no success. Before trying all these things the printer was recognized and working fine (now I've broken that, but trust that will be fixed with a factory reset).

Anybody with a suggestion it would be greatly appreciated!

  • I would be interested too. I have a PSC 1210 connected to my readynas. The printer works fine but impossible to get the sane addon works. In fact, the scanner is detected but no functionnal for sane backend. The problem is that the hplip drivers are not installed.

Last year, I had that working fine with a small linux server (hplip, sane backend and cups). I would like to have that with my rnd. The only thing needed is hplip drivers.
  • Exact same problem I have. I can make the ReadyNAS detect the Photosmart but nothing else. I have tried enabling apt-get and downloaded hplip that way, but I still could not make it work. I do not know if it was a version with limited capabilities or if it was just my limited abilities that showed...

Still, any help would be greatly appreciated. Really like my little NAS, this would just be the cherry...
  • I tried with apt-get too but it requires some package update as dependency that could probably break the system.
  • I installed the dependencies and it did not actually break the system. As far as I can see the system worked fine with the only exception that the printer was no longer recognized by the ReadyNAS. So all in all it was a setback compared to what I tried to do, but again I guess it was more due to my lack in abilities.
  • Hello, sorry to re-open this old topic but,

Have you finally been able to make SANE backend works fine with HP AIO hardware ?
