What happened to Orb?
Orb was one of the secondary reasons why I selected a ReadyNAS Pro 6 as my new NAS a couple of months ago. Unfortunately the joy was short lived: Orb was very unstable and producing a lot of exceptions. Disabling and re-enabling it through FrontView temporarily cured the problem, but FrontView layout doesn't allow scrolling from iOS Safari, forcing user to fire up their PC when things went wrong again.
Recently a new version of the Orb App was launched. Unfortunately Orb didn't warn about an incompatibility error with the Orb add-on on ReadyNAS, rendering Orb useless. Answers from Netgear revealed that Orb is not supported. That is weird at least, because it was still advertised. But a couple of days later, information about the Orb add-on started to vanish from the site. First the page on Orb, then the Orb icon on the add-on page and finally the whole Orb add-on thread on this forum (viewtopic.php?f=135&t=55085) (Cached: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... .google.nl) The add-on itself is still here http://www.readynas.com/?p=4274, but no page seems to link there anymore.
Orb seems to have announced a new iOS app, still compatible with the (buggy) ReadyNAS add-on:

So while Orb is still trying to find a solution, Netgear seems to have given up. I can imagine this is due to stability issues, but still I would like to know about the status on Orb.

- MindBenderAspirantI've been using Plex for about a week now and it's WAY better than Orb. Not only is it more stable (Orb would have had crashed at least 3 times by now), the presentation of your content is much more attractive. The iOS client is responsive and everyone just works, including fast-forward and -reverse.
So folks, stop mourning Orb - it wasn't as good as we remember it - and start using Plex.
