Wordpress 3.2 asks for a more up to date version of PHP

Wordpress is prompting me to update to version 3.2 but has the followng warning

"You cannot update because WordPress 3.2 requires PHP version 5.2.4 or higher. You are running version 5.2.0-8+etch16"

I have what I think is the latest version of the Super-Poissin PHP add-on installed but as noted above it is not up to date enough for the new release of Wordpress. I have found more up to date versions available from WhoCares? but they contain warnings about incompatibilities with the Super_Poussin versions.

Can I just remove my current versions of PHP and install the WhoCares versions so I can get Wordpress updated ?

All pointers gratefully received.

  • Glad to hear it Loustik. Have you got gallery working ok then? I've installed it no problem, but can't upload images. Is this working for you? I have the same issue on wordpress.
  • Hi ponyfeeders,

It seems that you managed to install WP too ! Did you face the same problems I had?

Actually I have the same problem, there's no way to upload any picture using Gallery ! Nonetheless, I didn't forget to chmod 777 the var/ folder... Anyway, the Gallery works properly, but it is pretty slow... I believe I won't use the NAS to host it, it may be too CPU-consuming.

I think I'll have to review all Apache options, and php.ini values as well ! The first guy who finds it tells the other ;-)
  • I think it may be something to do with PHP-GD but I have no idea what. I certainly don't think it is a permissions problem, more of a graphics resizing error. I even tried installing ImageMagick but this failed so I gave up.
  • If you want to I can have a look at it. But I'll be away until Wednesday morning.

  • Hi Stefan, thanks for your input,
My issue is to do with uploading images to my wordpress site and also to my gallery3 site. Both are on different shares and are working ok other than the issue with images.
Taking wordpress as an example, if I try and add an image to a post, the "crunching" process takes ages and then once complete, the image options show only Large (0x0) as an option. The actual image itself successfully transfers into the correct uploads folder, but somehow wordpress cannot use it properly. Gallery3 has the same issue. The image transfers, but the thumbnail isn't created.
I've tried increasing max upload size, timeout length etc but nothing seems to work.
Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated.
    Matt
