I believe the reason for not being able to change/write any files is because the OS operates on a copy of the original, so any changes would not actually be done on the NAS. Some people have resolved this by unchecking the 'locked' flag of the drive (CMD-I) but in my view there's a reason that flag is set so I'd not recommend it (admittedly I don't fully understand the reason for it happening in the first place so I'm perhaps overly cautious).
