<400Kb/sec transfer over Cat5 :(
hi guys and girls of the NAS community.
COMPLETE n00b, first post... ive aquired a ReadyNAS Duo and ive put 2x 500Gb Samsung HD501LJ drives in. configured it as RAID 1 and attempted to transfer around 100Gb of data over to it... the connection speed topped out at 380Kb/sec according to the windows file transfer dialog regardless if i use Wifi OR Cat5.
i have no clue why it is this low or how to get it running at a 'proper' speed.
im running windows 7, cat5 and a BT Home Hub3...
ANY HELP APPRECIATED

I can't talk figures, but your rate determining factor is the write speed of the disks.
Secondly the Duo is a home unit, and would not have as powerful a processor
as Business range.
Regards, Marto - chirpaLuminaryThe Duo would still handle 25MB/s.
Rich, when connected via cat5, is wireless disabled? Is the router/switch the PC and NAS are connected to gigabit capable?

No Switch, just router (unless the switch is incorperated) there is only 1 port on the 'home hub' for 'GigE'
i have port 1 used for Duo and Port 2 used for desktop
thanks for the link will have a look now

will try direct connect tomorrow at some point - chirpaLuminaryOkay, so the other 3 ports should be 100mbit, not 1000mbit. Even over that, you should peak around 8MB/s.
One option you could consider once we get the speed up to that level is to purchase a 5-port gigabit switch. You would then connect the desktop and NAS to that, and one port into the GigE(4) on your router, so they can talk to the rest of the network at the slower speeds.
8 retransmits is not high, so doesn't point there yet.
Let me know what your results of the direct connect are. - Marto731AspirantRichie,
I've looked at http://bt.custhelp.com/app/hub/c/346/?s ... z0zMjMyMiI.
Yes you have 3 x Fast Ethernet ports, and 1x Gig on the BT Hub.
A suggestion, would be to turn off wireless, and reduce internet use, to see
if there is an improvement.
Regards Marto - richydraperAspirantwill do.. i do have 52 ATA Errors on 'disk 2' could it be worth pulling disk 2 if direct connect fails to provide?
as said im a complete n00b so if im not making anysense or sugesting pointless things i apologise - richydraperAspirant

turn off the wireless on the router or PC? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI suggest that you do the direct connect test first and then report back.
Also, please provide your duo firmware level, so we can tell if you have a duo v1 or v2.
Turn off wireless on the PC.richydraper wrote: turn off the wireless on the router or PC? - richydraperAspiranti think im missing something with direct connect... in my networks i can see it as a storage device but not as a 'computer' so i cant access it to transfer anything
NAS firmware RAIDiator 4.1.10 [1.00a043] i have x-raid not raid 1 as i previously assumed :S sorry - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired52 ATA errors? Sounds like you have a bad disk. A bad disk is one common cause of performance issues.
