4200v2 OS6 running hot
Hiya, recently obtained a 4200v2. Upgraded to OS6, and everything is running just fine. The only problem I can find is that the x3450 CPU reports that it's running warm. At idle it's fine, 30degre...

Refitted the CPU cooler for about the 4th time, and this time used even less paste. Seems like the X3450 is quite sensitive to the amount of paste used. Now running much cooler.
Still having issues with the ReadyNAS UI/frontview updating the fan speeds & temperature often enough. It's not sluggish, but it's just not refreshing very often.

I should add that it's all as clean as a whilstle inside, and there's no way the CPU fan could be fitted backwards (at least looking at the shape).

Unfortuantely, the OS6 fan settings for the 4200V2 are less than ideal. Even on the Cool setting, mine often hits the 75°C warning temperature about the same time the fans finally spin up to cool it down when running something that is CPU intensive. And then it throttles it back down and lets it rise again. Clearly, the thresholds and hysteresis are poorly chosen, but I don't know how to adjust them.

Is there any kind of second hand market for 4200 v2s?
I picked this one up as a project, and have got it sorted it. It looks basically as new, but I've decided that I really don't need a 12 bay NAS. Apart from eBay, is there anywhere good to sell one of these things? Like a ReadyNAS enthusiast group or similar? This place doesn't seem to have a for-sale section, for obvious reasons.

No place I know of. The market for used 12-bay rack-mount ReadyNAS is pretty small, especially considering the shipping costs. Still, it's better for the 4200V2 and above than the 3200/4200, which can only handle up to 2TB drives in 8 of the 12 bays. If you do list it, don't use the standard description, as that will make it appear far less capable than it is.
There was a time when a Supermicro X8SI6 based system, which is what the 4200V2 basically is, still had a good market for the FreeNAS crowd, but it's getting pretty long in the tooth these days.
