AFP Out Of Date In OS X Lion
I have a ReadyNAS NV+ with RAIDiator 4.1.7 [1.00a043] installed. Using the developer preview of OS X Lion, I get this message when trying to connect.
"The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem."
Is there some way to upgrade AFP?

maxervice wrote: Found a workaround to enable (and disable) DHCAST128 in Lion, by default Apple disables support for the “DHCAST128″, which is commonly used by NAS boxes. This is because it is thought is it insufficiently secure. So all the Vendors must work with Apple for Lion compatibility.
To turn on “DHCAST128″ support please do the following on your Mac running Mac OS X 10.7 Lion:
1) Launch /Applications/Utilities/Terminal and do:
sudo chmod o+w /Library/Preferences
Then:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_host_prefs_version -int 1
Now Quit from Terminal and restart your computer.
From Finder, select an AFP server, or use “Connect To…”. This will cause the AFP Client to create the full preferences file
3) Launch Terminal again and do:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array “Cleartxt Passwrd” “MS2.0″ “2-Way Randnum exchange”
Then:
sudo chmod o-w /Library/Preferences
Now Quit from Terminal and restart your computer.
Note: To add a “DHCAST128″ to the disable list, use
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array-add “DHCAST128″
This has been tested on my OS X Lion 10.7 GM Installation and works like a dream.
Unfortunately, this doesn't help with Time Machine, only authenticated access. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredNetatalk 2.2 is needed for Mac OS X Lion Time Machine support as has been mentioned several times in the thread.
- bsaitzAspirantwhat's best way to stay tuned or to lobby netgear to address the netatalk update?

Wfm,ymmv. Use at your own risk ;) After installation make sure to manually restart the AFP service using Frontview: "Services" -> "Protocols". Just disable and when finished re-enable. That's it. Same goes for de-installation of the add-on.

Thank you Stefan, works a treat.
Now all you need to fix, is the TimeMachine support
Thanks
Mike
p.s. had a bit of trouble understanding the German PayPal site, but a donation should be with you - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredKeep an eye on the public beta forums to see if there's a RAIDiator firmware update. It should be clear from the Release Notes if it includes updated AFP and Time Machine support.

 - jonathanmellonAspirantWell I have just spoken to Level 2 Support here in the UK and they weren't aware of any issues (however they did obviously say that they don't support any Beta's) but they will check with Level 3. So hopefully they might fix it before Lion is released or at least have a fix ready.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTech support probably hasn't even looked at testing the ReadyNAS units against Mac OS X Lion yet then (well at least not the Level 2 Support people you spoke to) which isn't that surprising as they don't support betas.
The developers on the other hand would look at betas and be well aware of the issues. The issue is well known and yoh-dah (the head of the Jedi) has indicated on Twitter that they are working on adding Lion support as I mentioned above.
